This year’s Writing Contest will pay tribute to George Orwell, one of the biggest writers of the 20th century. All texts must start with: “It was a bright cold day in April, and the clocks were striking thirteen. The entire text should be written in Times New Roman, font size 12, and 1,5 line spacing; The writing contest will be divided into 5 different categories:

  • A – Kids – 80 words minimum;
  • B – Junior 1, Junior 2 + A1 (adults) – 125 words minimum;
  • C – Junior 3 + A2.1 + A2.2 (adults) – 175 words minimum;
  • D – Teens 1 + Teens 2 – 250 words minimum; E – First + Advanced + Proficiency – 350 words minimum;

The correction criteria will be the same as the ones used for all the writing exercises performed here in City School and they will be evaluated by 3 teachers from the school: Catarina Ribeiro, Carina Freitas e Ricardo Martins; All texts must be submitted for evaluation by email to: celiacarvalho@cityschool.pt, so that the teachers are not able to recognise the handwriting of their students. In the subject of the email the participant should write: “Writing contest”;

The final date for the submission is 23rd March and the results concerning the winners will be announced on 6th April 2018;

Each category will have 3 winners:

1st place, 2nd place and 3rd place – they will all receive a book as their prize;

Every student that enters the contest will receive a participation gift;

Joana Pinóia will be the 3rd member of the evaluation panel regarding creativity, difficulty level and content; All texts must be submitted for evaluation by email to: tvedras@cityschool.pt, so that the teachers are not able to recognise the handwriting of their students. In the subject of the email the participant should write: “Writing contest”;
